I recently wrote about Aston Martin’s sleek DB12 Goldfinger Edition, if that wasn’t the ultimate in Bond-inspired elegance, Rolls-Royce has just upped the ante with its Phantom Goldfinger Edition. This is more than a car - it’s a golden shrine on wheels, a homage to the 007 universe that’s less ‘gadget’ and more ‘automotive palatial lair’.
The Phantom Goldfinger Edition leaves subtlety far behind. Starting with the Spirit of Ecstasy herself, who now gleams in 24-karat gold, Rolls-Royce clearly isn’t holding back with this one! Every inch of this car drips with touches of bespoke ‘Goldfinger’ gold, carefully plated throughout the interior and exterior. Driving this car will certainly connect us all with our inner Bond villain. The dashboard is so lavishly adorned that even the clock is embellished with gold. You’ll feel like time itself is gilded while you sit in the back sipping a drink from the integrated champagne cooler in the center console - a nod to the classic shaken-not-stirred Bond lifestyle, and an essential feature for any gold obsessed master criminal.
Unlike the Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger, which brings an array of spy-inspired gadgets and modern Bond tech, Rolls-Royce is sticking to what it knows best: sheer elegance and supreme comfort. Instead of smoke screens or bulletproof glass, you get plush wool carpeting and fibre-optic roof liner lighting that mimics the exact sky of the Furka Pass on July 11th, 1964, the final day of filming the now iconic scene as Connery’s Bond tracked and followed Goldfinger's original Rolls Royce.
Don’t expect to find any hidden ejector seats or rotating license plates here. Rolls-Royce believes that the only real way to elude trouble is through pure, golden opulence. After all, when you pull up in a Phantom Goldfinger Edition, even the most hardened villain or MI6 agent might stop in awe. This car isn’t for blending in or making a quick escape - it’s for making an entrance. The kind of entrance that says, “Yes, I may or may not be the mastermind behind an international crime syndicate, but I’m definitely doing it in style.”
Further features definitely worth noting include a 007 illumination when the boot is opened, in reference to the tracking devices hiding place in the film, a golden golf club also found in the boot, again homaging the films golfing sequence, something that Sean Connery himself insisted on! - and possibly the most ostentatious feature in any car to date, something that Rolls Royce describe themselves as… “A hidden vault in the center console conceals an illuminated solid 18-carat gold bar, shaped as a Phantom ‘Speedform.” Truly over-the-top but remaining classy as always. They even managed to secure the ‘AU 1’ number plate, in reference to the one on the original Rolls Royce used in the film.
With a rumoured price well into seven figures, the Phantom Goldfinger Edition is for the Bond fan who’s ready to live like royalty. Aston Martin’s DB12 may have all the gadgets, but Rolls-Royce knows the most powerful tool of all: sheer, golden, bank-breaking luxury… and a golf club in the boot.
