TAG Heuer's Collaborative Creation: Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa by Bamford - A Luxury Watch Fusion

Tetsu Ikuzawa, a notable Japanese racing driver, embodies the spirit of Japanese racing despite not being the most successful on the international stage. Rising to prominence in European motor racing during the late ‘60s and ‘70s, Ikuzawa made a mark in Formula 3, Formula 2, and eventually the Porsche endurance racing program. Today, Team Ikuzawa, led by Ikuzawa’s daughter, Mai Ikuzawa, thrives not only as a racing enterprise but also as a luxury fashion label. In a recent collaboration, luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer partnered with Team Ikuzawa and renowned watch customizer Bamford Watch Department to infuse the clean, graphic, and distinctly Japanese style of Team Ikuzawa into a modern racing chronograph—the luxury TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa by Bamford.

The luxury TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa by Bamford boasts a 42mm wide stainless steel case, consistent with the modern Carrera Chronograph line's aesthetics. The case features Carrera visual hallmarks, including a polished bezel, wide piston pushers, and angular, inwardly beveled lugs. Notably, the sapphire display caseback displays a limited edition serial number and logos for both Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department. The design maintains a sporty edge with a mix of brushed and polished planes and offers a water resistance of 100 meters.

The dial of the luxury TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa by Bamford deviates from the standard Carrera formula, reflecting Ikuzawa’s streetwear flair and Bamford’s minimalist custom dial approach. The design is focused and austere, characterized by a nearly fully matte presentation and a simple two-color layout. The white matte dial surface, coupled with matte red elements, offers a classic, sporty contrast, maintaining a pared-back feel. The dial prominently features the Team Ikuzawa logo at 6 o’clock and a rising sun emblem integrated into the 9 o’clock subdial, paying homage to Team Ikuzawa's Japanese heritage.

Powering the luxury watch is the Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement, known for its 80-hour power reserve and precise performance. The luxury watch is complemented by two strap options—the standard H-link stainless steel bracelet for a sporty feel and a tightly woven fabric strap in optic white, showcasing the Team Ikuzawa logo. Each luxury watch also includes a scale model replica of the Porsche 906 that Tetsu Ikuzawa drove to victory at the 1967 Japanese Grand Prix, reinforcing the connection to Team Ikuzawa’s racing heritage.

In summary, the limited edition luxury TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa by Bamford encapsulates the vibrant Japanese spirit, blending racing heritage with streetwear flair. With only 100 examples available, this collaborative timepiece is exclusively accessible through authorized dealers in Japan and the brand’s e-commerce platform at a luxury MSRP of 6,250 CHF.
